Review:
Recently purchased the Walther lever action 88g CO2 rifle and have had time to put it through its paces. It is a great air rifle with wonderful craftsmanship and quality.
I have read reviews on other forums and will try to not duplicate those comments here. My thoughts and comments are as follows;
1. Very close to an actual Winchester Mdl-94 in heft and layout. A longer forearm and smaller buttstock would have made it much harder to tell the difference.
2. Buy many extra rotary magazines as you will need them. The 88 and 90g CO2 cylinders offer a lot of shooting opportunity and you do not want to be loading magazines when you could be shooting. I suggest 15-20 as they are not expensive.
3. The 90g CO2 cartridge will work in the rifle with no modifications.
4. My rifle had a loose fit between the buttstock and the receiver at the point where the grip is. Tightening the two screws that hold the stock and the receiver together did not eliminate this wiggle and Umarex customer service offered no solution. I made a shim out of two thickness of a business card and placed it on the right side of the receiver underneath the buttstock and completely eliminated the side to side play. It now has an appropriate solid feel.
5. The operating manual indicated that working the lever once was necessary to properly index the magazine prior to shooting. I suggest doing this twice as only once did not always properly position the magazine.
6. Do not remove the buttstock with a pressurized CO2 cartridge in place. Doing so will vent the gas and will likely cause you to lose the screw as it is propelled across the room.
