There’s so much going on these days. You have to make choices and be deliberate when it comes to what you will invest your time into. Remember, time is the only currency that you aren’t guaranteed to get, you are guaranteed to spend, and, in a single day, everyone has access to the same hours that you do– no more, no less. And with that in mind, there are hundreds, if not thousands of things, activities, events, etc. that are all vying for us to spend our time on that particular thing.
This year is more than halfway over but the big airgun competition circuit has just started. That is the three major airgun competitions, beginning with Utah Airgun’s Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge, moving on toPyramyd Air’s Pyramyd Air Cup, and finishing up the year with Airguns of Arizona’s Extreme Benchrest.
We have just returned from Utah, the scene of Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge. This is a huge event with lots of money on the table. Typically this event is held in the third week of June and takes nearly a whole week of the calendar to put on. Given the time of the year this event takes place, there’s plenty of daylight and plenty of heat to go around for everyone. Thankfully, the crew at Utah Airguns does a great job of keeping water on ice so no one turns into a heat case.
While this event is in the rearview mirror for 2026, still up ahead is the Pyramyd Air Cup. Historically, this event has been held in September, but for 2026, the Cup will be held August 5th through the 8th. Short and sweet, the Pyramyd Air Cup is packed with fast moving action on the Benchrest range, the Gunslynger competitions, and the Field Target course. This event is held in Marengo, Ohio at the Cardinal Shooting Center. With its location in the eastern half of the country, it is still very hot, but, unlike the events in the west, there’s still plenty of humidity for us folks who find comfort in damp air.
Rounding out the season is Airguns of Arizona’s Extreme Benchrest which takes place in October. While October brings thoughts of leaves changing color, sweaters, and bonfires to a good deal of the country, out in Mesa, it is still hot and dry. Thankfully, you can pick up a Cactus Cooler (soda) to quench your thirst while you are out there. Extreme Benchrest is packed with various competitions. There’s the standard benchrest, 50 yard bench, Extreme Field Target, Steel Scramble (positional precision shooting), Speed Silhouette, and Extreme Big Bore. There is truly something for everyone at Extreme Benchrest. Due to daylight being a diminishing resource this late in the year, there is never a dull moment in the 4 days of the competition.
Of the three events, RMAC is done and gone, the PA Cup is around the corner, but, I believe, sold out. The remaining event, EBR, will announce registration soon, but with so many events and a short day to cram them into, the registration field is limited. In other words, if you want in, you had best act as soon as it is announced.
