Dateline: March 1st, 2026 Hodge-Podge and Miscellany

We are thisclose to spring.  Yep, still lots of cool, potentially cold and miserable days ahead of us, but the calendar is moving on and our relative angle to the sun is changing.  That’s a welcome change. More daylight is a good thing. It’s a real drag going to work in the dark and driving home as the sun sets. Through the magic of national policy, we will get to shift the window of available daylight by one hour this coming weekend.  I know, it’s like cutting a foot off the bottom of your quilt and sewing back to the top– there’s no longer day by virtue of the time change.

That said, for those of us who like to participate in activities, like shooting, that are best done in the daylight, having said illumination after I get off work for an extra hour is a welcome thing. For the past several months all of my extracurricular shooting activities have been held exclusively on the weekends. Like you, other activities and needs compete with my time on the weekends, so the reality is that there hasn’t been a whole lot of shooting through the winter months.

Before you know it, it will be time for the Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge.  I know, that takes place in June, but you know how time flies. Practice time, for me, for this event will begin, officially, March 8th.

Even though we have some updates to our Zelos line coming up, I am still going to shoot my .22 caliber version at the 100 yard benchrest and precision competitions.  I have never shot in the big bore competition, but if I can get my hands on one, I plan on taking the Tusk .357 caliber PCP to this event. We will see.

However, between now and RMAC Umarex will be back in Houston, Texas for the Annual NRA Meetings and Expositions.  This will be April 17th through the 19th in the George R. Brown Convention Center. Since this show is open to the public, we fully expect you to be there with your boots on. Even in mid-April, Houston can be kinda warmish, so take that into consideration.  We will be easy to find on the convention floor, directly across from our friends at GLOCK.

Well, it would be appropriate to wrap this short update up. We will have more news and such coming up soon. In the meantime, enjoy the “longer days” and get out and shoot!
