Hunting season is just on the horizon. Actually, some rays are peaking through the trees. Most hunters are making preparations for their fall hunting right now. Food plots are being tended to, trail cameras are going up, gear is being purchased and hunters are reviewing regulations for the upcoming seasons. Let’s face it, hunting season is crowding in faster than you can say, “Bob’s your uncle.”
With this in mind, we have released the NitroJavelin air archery gun this summer. The NitroJavelin is based on the AirJavelin platform meaning it is designed to use a shorter, lighter arrow than the AirSaber, but still at a very fast velocity which makes it capable of hunting various game species. Now, your mileage will vary depending on where you are concerning legality of air archery and power requirements in your state, so be sure to check up on your state's regulations for compliance. For some species, like feral hogs, you may have much more latitude than you would if hunting for whitetail deer.
Let’s get back to the subject at hand, the NitroJavelin. The heart of the NitroJavelin is its power source, the NitroAir single use cartridge. This system allows any outdoorsman to access the power and convenience of PreCharged Pneumatic airgun shooting without having to invest in an expensive high-pressure compressor.
The single largest obstacle that keeps someone from purchasing any PCP type airgun is the additional cost of the required accessory, the fill source. It is one thing to spend $400-$600-$800 on a gun, but it is something else to have to spend $500-$800-$1100 just to use the primary device. With this in mind, NitroAir is an alternative to side step another major purchase while you are deciding if you even like the idea of PCP airgunning or saving up to purchase a compressor.
The NitroJavelin, with a fresh tank of NitroAir installed, will shoot a 235 grain arrow at 450 FPS. The NitroJavelin arrow itself weighs 160 grains and it comes with a 75 grain field tip installed. You can install any broadhead that you want on the NitroJavelin arrow. We have had good luck with mechanical broadheads and single bevel broadheads as well. With up to 100 Ft-Lbs of energy on tap, you can harvest larger game, in a humane and effective way.
The NitroJavelin has a full length picatinny rail so you can mount the optic of your choice. We recommend using an archery scope like the Axeon 4X archery scope or the Hawke Optics Archery Scope. Either one of these optics will help you stay on target and figure the range to the target.
You will be able to get 5 full power shots from the 32 gram NitroAir Cartridge– plenty for a day hunting. I would recommend picking up at least 2 more two-pack of NitroAir cartridges so you can get the gun zeroed in properly and shoot it at various distances to match the ranging “pins” in your optic’s reticle.
